Zoolander and Fiat are so hot right now

Derek Zoolander and Fiat have come together for a collaboration that is so hot right now. The 60-second ad debuted during the Golden Globes awards in promotion of the new film, Zoolander 2.

Zoolander, the alter ego of Ben Stiller and international fashion icon, crashed the awards with an ad that features him driving a yellow 2016 Fiat 500X. The ad features the male model driving past a traffic camera again, and again pulling his signature look, blue steel. Or was it Ferrari?

In true Zoolander fashion he is so involved in his own vanity that he doesn't realise what he is doing is illegal, reminding us that yes, he is just a pretty face. Subsequently, he is pulled over by the police and says, 'I know, I was driving while hot.'

The ad was directed by Paramount's Jeff Mann, the film's director, and signals Paramount's objective to aggressively market its new film.

The Zoolander sequel was first promoted back in March at Paris Fashion Week, and is set to be released in February of this year. A trailer for the movie also appeared earlier in the Globes broadcast on NBC.

This isn't the first co-marketing we've seen from movie studios and advertisers, with Paramount and Fiat also teaming up for the release of Anchorman 2, and Paramount promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The ad will remain on air until the movie's release, and we can't wait to see what ingenious one liners are to come.

Along comes the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider

The Fiat gets its own bodywork, with several touches that hearken back to the original 124 Spider. These include a hexagonal grille, rear fenders that sweep into the doors, rectangular taillights, a chrome windshield frame, and a twin power dome hood.

Under that hood, you'll find the1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder currently used in the Fiat 500 Abarth, here delivering 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, which makes it more powerful than the Miata's engine. It is available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

Inside, the FIAT124 Spider will offer a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, blind-spot monitor, back up camera and heated seats.

Pricing for the 124 Spider has not yet been announced. Mazda will build it for Fiat in Japan. The Fiat was originally planned to be the new Alfa Romeo Spider, but parent company FCA has since decided that all Alfa Romeos will be made in Italy, so that brand will get its own reborn Spider in the coming years.

New Fiat 500 X earns top safety rating from IIHS

DETROIT, MI - An authoritative non-profit's rating system on Tuesday named the new Fiat 500X compact SUV a top safety pick.

It's a welcome result for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which saw some of its SUVs fare poorly in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's small overlap crash test.

But the Fiat 500X earned "good" ratings in that test, which crashes the front, driver's side corner of the vehicle against a barrier at 40 miles per hour, as well as in four other categories rated by the IIHS.

The IIHS subsequently called the Fiat 500X a "Top Safety Pick +," its highest rating. The only other FCA vehicle to earn the rating in 2015 is the Chrysler 200.

The Fiat 500X, which went on sale earlier this year, comes equipped with a 1.4L, 160-horsepower engine with a six-speed manual transmission or a 2.4L, 180-horsepower engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The compact SUV was designed at the Italian brand's studios in Turin, and is being built at Fiat's Melfi assembly plant, where FCA also builds the Jeep Renegade.

The Fiat 500X starts at $20,000.
